Welcome
Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 17! Our Cub Pack was established over 50 years ago. Our Charter organization is Trinity United Methodist Church located on 1581 Cambridge Blvd. Columbus, OH 43212. The Church helps us by supporting our programs, organization, and provides a safe meeting place. We are a part of the Simon Kenton Council in Central Ohio. Most of our Scouts come from Barrington Elementary School, however we have students from other area schools as well.
Cub Scouting is a home and neighborhood-centered organization and is designed to support family life. Our Pack's program helps to meet your Cub Scout's growth needs such as learning new physical skills, gaining a sense of worthiness and acceptance by his peers, learning to get along with others and form friendships with other children the same age. Our pack offers all of these things and more. Your Scout will learn new skills through cooperation with other children and adult examples. In addition your Scout will work on ranks to give him the feeling of accomplishment and build self esteem.
Ranks
Cub Scouts are grouped by Den within each school grade. Your Scout starts out as a Tiger Cub in first grade. This is an exciting time for the boys. They get to learn new things and start to develop new friendships and a sense of belonging. His first rank is the Bobcat. The Bobcat is the basic rank that is awarded after the boy has demonstrated that he knows what it means to be a Cub Scout and understand the scouting principles. In the second grade, he will progress into the Wolf scout rank. Then when your scout moves into the third grade, he will work on the Bear badge. In the fourth and fifth grade your Scout will move into Webelos. During the fifth grade the Webelos will start to visit area Boy Scout troops, and start to think about which one to crossover to at the end of fifth grade.
Schedule
Our program runs throughout the school year for the boys. While the Pack meets once per month, each Den has their own separate schedule of times and days to meet during the month. The boys and their parents attend meetings and activities to learn and grow together. We do not hold regular Pack or Den meetings during the summer but we do have planned summer activities for your scout to attend. These have included roller-skating, races, camping, baseball games, hockey games, picnics and much more. For further information on our schedule, please check the Calendar link.
Leaders
We have a very strong group of people who lead and support all of the boys in our pack. All of the volunteers have the opportunity to attend training seminars to receive more specific direction in leadership and dealing with the boys on all levels. Parents are encouraged to attend committee meetings and to volunteer for positions within the Pack, and to help the Leaders with organizing and running individual events. The best way to stay in touch is to get involved.
